DOSE OF ADOLESCENCE - ZIRCON AVE ALBUM REVIEW

Review by Betsy Benson

Dose of Adolescence, on XOVR (pronounced “Cross-Over) Records, a new record label founded and co-founded by David Williams and Korn’s Brian “Head” Welch, respectively, released their new album “Zircon Ave”, November 15, 2024! It’s their first album in over a decade, and band members Jimmy Brown (lead vocalist) and Timmy Brown (lead guitarist) don’t disappoint, having created a catchy rock/hip-hop playlist wrapped up in head-bopping beats.

The album is preluded by their single, “Get Back Up”, an uplifting yet hard-hitting anthem of perseverance in the face of adversity and a theme likewise echoed on track 4, “And All my People”, a fast-paced and hip-hop heavy song for the haters of the world. The album’s most notable song, IMO, is “Memories”, a track whose chorus is more reminiscent of the classic 90s/early 2000s rock scene (1986 baby here – gimme POD, Hoobastank, & Papa Roach), but is mostly lovely for its lyrical content, poetry that is both deeply personal to the artists but doesn’t alienate their listeners, as “We all got someone who we dearly miss”.

All in all, “Zircon Ave.” is quite a ride with the Brown brothers at the wheel, navigating through a landscape of sick beats, solid hip-hop, rolling rock, and a few turns to the past. Enjoy the ride!
