Thrice is band that has been around and impacting the music scene with its incredible sound for over 20 years. Thrice formed in 1998 in Irvin California. Thrice maybe known to music fans from their earlier work that was a mix of fast paced riffs blended with heavy aromatic solos and complex guitar work. The band is known for implementing different time signatures into their songs which they do with such artistic fluidity that it sounds almost rhythmic and intricately composed. I have known about Thrice since there early day’s when I was introduced to their music with the album “The Illusion of Safety” while working at a local college radio station. During my on air shift I would play a lot of up and coming bands music and Thrice was on heavy rotation during my shift. “See you in the shallows”, “A Living Dance upon dead minds”, “Trust “ and most of that album was a staple during my show. Thrice’s third album called “The Artist in the Ambulance” was another great album. It was way more polished then the previous album but it brought a much more powerful kick to their sound. So to say the least Thrice has made an impact in the music scene and continues to do so today. The band is out touring and have just released a new album called “Palms”. So lets talk about their show at the Cat’s Cradle.
I want to start of by pointing out that their show was sold out. So, that should prove to you the impact Thrice still has in music and the dedication of their fan-base. I walked into the Cat’s Cradle and quickly realized I will have to do the “excuse me” move just to get to the front of the stage because the main floor was packed. I got up to the front, showed my credentials and entered the pit. I got their before Thrice came on and the crowd was definitely excited and ready for them to hit the stage. Just look at the 360 photograph below to get an idea.
Before the band came out I positioned myself in the pit and got my gear ready. The lights went dim and the band walked on stage. One of the first things I noticed is the incredible light show they put on during their entire set. The way they had the stage set up made you feel as if you were watching a personal show in their living room. It was very chilled and the feeling of excitement reverberated through the venue. Each band member gave passionate and energetic performances with lead singer Dustin Kensrue pushing out powerful vocal performances with each song and lyric. The band would jump around the stage and definitely fed off the energy of the fans who were also jumping up and down. You can see the energy with the video down below.
I am happy to see Thrice moving forward with creating music because we as music addicts need them in our lives. They are of an integral importance to not only the music scene itself but to the music lovers of the world. Thrice with their storied history and incredible catalog of music have embedded themselves into the hearts of people and it shows with the love and dedication of their fans. If you have not seen them perform live then you are missing out. Even if you are a fan from back in the day or a new found fan, Thrice is a band that will continue to make an impact in music for years to come.
