GRETA VAN FLEET LIVE!! | PNC ARENA RALEIGH
Greta Van Fleet performed at the PNC area in Raleigh to a crowd of about 12,000 fans, and it was epic. Before the band even hit the stage fans were screaming in excitement and the energy was high. To open the show and get the crowd going was the legend himself Robert Finley who even at the age of 68 still put on a great performance. His voice was on point and he even did a few dance moves on stage. It was a pleasure watching him perform and sing and the music fans loved it showing him so much support and praise. Following Robert Finley was a band called Houndmouth. I will be honest, I had never heard of this band, so I was interested in seeing them perform. I must have been the only one who did not know who they were because when Houndmouth walked out everyone in the arena went wild. The band sounded great with their mix of rock music and indie pop. They were energetic and really sounded good. They did inform us though that it was their last stop on this particular tour, so if you are expecting to see Houndmouth open up for Greta Van Fleet you may be disappointed. They were fantastic and really enjoyed their performance.
Now let’s talk about the main show. Greta Van Fleet. What is most interesting to me is that a few of my fellow music journalist friends were telling me they covered this band many years ago at a small music venue called the Pour House Music Hall in Raleigh NC. Now that particular venue only fits maybe 200 or 250 people, so to see them go from that sort of humble beginning to now playing in an arena in front of 12,000 people is a incredible accomplishment. The band did not disappoint and put on one hell of a great performance. They were excited to be there and even had some pyrotechnics go over behind them which gave such an epic effect to the incredible vocal performance and guitar solos being played. Every single music fan in that area was going wild and were screaming as if the Beatles entered the building. Music fans had signs that stated “I love you” and others that ask the band to play a certain song. To really give you an idea of there sound, they have been compared to the legendary rock band Led Zepplin which in itself is an incredible comparison but also Greta Van Fleets lead singer Josh Kiszka vocal performances have been compared to the great Robert Plant himself. Robert Plant playfully stated in one interview from 2018 describing Josh Kiszka as a “a beautiful little singer, I hate him”. The remarks were playful as the legend Robert Plant thinks the band is incredible. I have to agree with the legend himself because Greta Van Fleet put on one incredible performance. I had not experienced a show like that before and to hear lead singer Josh sing and perform really showcased the bands talent and showmanship. The entire band was energized and excited, they put on a performance I will not soon forget. Even though the band is compared to the great legends themselves Led Zeppelin, to be honest, that is not too shabby of a band to be compared to.
