LINDSEY STIRLING LIVE!! | OVEN's AUDITORIUM
Coverage by Daphne McKinney
Lindsey Stirling is currently on the road for The Snow Waltz Christmas Tour. This tour, which began on November 21st in Toronto, Ontario is scheduled through December 22nd ending in Lexington, Kentucky. Recently, Lindsey Stirling made a stop at Oven’s Auditorium in Charlotte, North Carolina. The night was filled with music, dancing, acrobatics, and even a little bit of magic.
Ovens Auditorium is located in the Bojangles Entertainment Complex, which houses two historic venues. The auditorium has 2,447 seats and was fully sold out for this performance. It was an extremely chilly night, but everyone bundled up and was forming a line outside of the venue in anticipation of the night’s concert.
Luckily, everyone grabbed their concessions and made it to their seats just in time for the festivities to begin. And they were definitely very festive! The beginning of the concert was filled with a lot of everyone’s favorite class Christmas tunes, including “Jingle Bell Rock” and “Let it Snow.” Lindsey Stirling hit the stage first with her violin playing the first few tracks. She was followed by dancers who were all dressed up in their most whimsical holiday attire.
Occasionally, Lindsey would trade in her violin to sing a song herself. She stopped to address the crowd, introducing her band and other performers, and also shared some personal stories of inspiration. There were multiple costume changes throughout the night’s performance, but it really never stopped. There was even a little bit of comedic relief in between performances, like tour manager Erich Jackson who dressed as a Christmas tree and occasionally came out to chat with the audience. One time singing “O Christmas Me,” which was met with lots of laughter from the crowd.
A few highlights of night included the performance of “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” where Lindsey and her dancers all dressed in green. She also joked as this is her 7th Christmas tour, she feels like a bit of an expert on Christmas. Her band joined in while they “Christmas-ified” some popular music. This became an audience game while we got to identify when we recognized the popular song they were playing. The medley included snippets of “Toxic,” “Party in the U.S.A.,” and “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” along with many others.
Toward the end of the concert is when the audience was treated to lots of acrobatics which flowed perfectly with the music and lights. Lindsey Stirling along with her dancers were flying high above the stage doing flips and spins in aerial hoops. It was an absolutely magical night that was definitely unforgettable.
