Green Day — A Full‑Circle Moment at Walnut Creek, Raleigh NC

I had the chance to cover one of my all‑time favorite bands, Green Day, and the experience was nothing short of surreal. When I was heading into high school, Green Day released their breakthrough record Dookie. I played that album endlessly in my room—much to the annoyance of my parents—and it became a defining part of my early ’90s youth. Now, decades later, I’m almost 40, but those memories feel as fresh as yesterday. So when the opportunity came to photograph Green Day, I didn’t hesitate for a second.

The night didn’t start smoothly. Severe weather rolled into North Carolina, and for about an hour it looked like the show might be canceled. A few photographer friends who were shooting for other publications decided not to risk it and stayed home. I couldn’t bring myself to leave. I sat in my car, watching the storm, hoping the skies would clear. I had been waiting months for this moment.

Eventually, the weather let up just enough. The venue and the band made the call: the show was happening. I can’t express how excited I was. I grabbed my gear, ran from my car, picked up my media pass, and headed straight to the stage. We waited in the pit for a little while, and then—finally—Green Day came out.

Green Day hit the stage with full force, ready to connect with every fan in the amphitheater. Their opening act, Catfish and the Bottlemen, had already delivered an incredible performance, but when Green Day stepped out, the energy shifted instantly. The crowd erupted, the lights hit, and the show kicked into high gear.

The show was everything I hoped it would be—fast, loud, chaotic, and absolutely thrilling. Being that close to a band that shaped my teenage years was a moment I’ll never forget. I saw Green Day live once before, back in high school at a massive multi‑band concert called River Rave. I remember the excitement of seeing them then, and here I was more than twenty years later, covering them up close and personal. It felt like a full‑circle moment—one that tied my past to my present in the best possible way.

It was an incredible night, and I’m grateful I got to experience it. Don’t miss Greenday, it is a great experience.
