CARBON LEAF LIVE! | LINCOLN THEATER

Coverage by Chris Sturk

Carbon Leaf — Live at Lincoln Theatre, Raleigh NC

We had the pleasure of meeting and photographing Carbon Leaf at the Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh, NC — a band whose name has been around for “just a few years”… you know, only about 25. Not long at all. Despite their long history, Carbon Leaf played their Raleigh show with the energy of a band freshly signed and releasing their debut album. They sounded fantastic. Their music blends blues, folk, and even a touch of Celtic influence, creating a style that’s unmistakably theirs.

Across their 25‑year career, Carbon Leaf has performed more than 2,400 live concerts and released over 17 albums — a level of output that speaks to both their passion and their staying power. One of their biggest hits, “Life Less Ordinary,” became a radio staple and earned repeat airplay nationwide. The track, from their album Indian Summer, climbed to No. 5 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart and remains one of their most recognizable songs.

Carbon Leaf’s performance at Lincoln Theatre was a reminder of why they’ve lasted this long: great musicianship, genuine connection with fans, and a sound that continues to evolve while staying true to who they are.

Watch the video below.

Band members include Barry Privett, Terry Clark, Carter Gravatt, Jason Neal and Jon Markel.
The band has had a few rotation changes over the years but that has not stopped them from creating and performing in front of dedicated fans.

The Show: Carbon Leaf at Lincoln Theatre

The Lincoln Theatre, tucked into the heart of downtown Raleigh, has a long and colorful history — and on this night, it was packed wall‑to‑wall with fans ready for Carbon Leaf. Before the show, I headed backstage to introduce myself and let the band know I’d be moving around the venue photographing their performance. They were incredibly welcoming, easy to talk to, and genuinely accommodating. We discussed a few ideal spots for shooting and the types of moments I was hoping to capture.

Once I made my way back into the crowd, the anticipation was already building. The lights dropped, the room erupted, and Carbon Leaf stepped onto the stage to a wave of cheers from Raleigh fans who were more than ready for them. From the first note, they sounded fantastic.

The band was fully engaged — joking with the crowd, talking between songs, and delivering a performance that felt both polished and personal. Their vocals were tight, the musicianship was on point, and the energy never dipped. It was the kind of show that reminds you why Carbon Leaf has lasted 25 years and why they still draw such loyal audiences.

Even after all this time, they perform with the same passion and precision they had decades ago. If you’ve never seen Carbon Leaf live, I’d absolutely recommend it. They’re as good now as they’ve ever been.

Huge thanks to Carbon Leaf for having me out to photograph the show.
