We covered the Interrupters during their tour stop with 311, Dirty Heads and Dreamers on 7/28/19 at the Coastal Credit Union Music Park in Raleigh NC.

The Interrupters are a punk band with ska influences that formed in Los Angeles, California in 2011. The band is comprised Aimee Interrupter on lead vocals, Jesse Bivona on drums, Justin Bivona on bass and Kevin Bivona on guitar. They have released three albums with the most recent being ”Fight the Good Fight” which was released in 2018. The first single from the album is called "She's Kerosene".

The band has heavy influences and comparisons to the amazing punk band Rancid (which I look at as a huge compliment). Tim Armstrong of Rancid did work closely with the interrupters in helping build their sound. The interrupters were involved with Tim Armstrong's “Tim Timebomb and Friends” project, which saw the online-release of a song a day for an entire year. The bands song called "Family", features a guest vocal by Tim Armstrong and was previously released through the Tim Timebomb and Friends project.

So lets talk about the band and their tour stop in Raleigh. So I am just going to start off this concert highlight with a “f#$K YEAH!” because they kicked ass. I first heard about this band a few years ago when their video popped up on my YouTube video player. I really liked them and it reminded me of the day’s when punk and ska ruled the world… oh the good old days. After I heard their songs I wanted to learn a little more and when I read that Tim Armstrong was involved I was even more excited about the bands future in music. I grew up with Rancid and owned almost all of their albums in the early 90’s and late 2000’s. Rancid influenced my musical style when I was in a band and they are by far one of my favorite bands of all time. So when I read Tim was involved I knew this band was going to be amazing.

When the interrupters came on stage it was a much needed kick in the teeth. I talked into the pit and there were what looked like makeshift stairs going from the front of the stage into the pit. After looking closer I saw that yes, this was make shift stairs. I then leaned again the front of the stage and waited for them to come out. First the brothers ran out and then you see Aimee running right out after them. The energy was already high once they hit the stage. People were very excited to see them live and they did not disappoint. I have been photographing bands for years and have covered over 800 shows and the Interrupter put on one of the funnest and energetic shows of this year so far. Aimee was all over the place and the rest of the band was running around, raising their guitars and had big ass smiles on their faces. You definitely knew they wanted to be there and that they were happy being on that state playing to the fans.

During the middle of the fist song Aimee stepped onto the makeshift stairs and started fist bumping fans and you saw them go wild in excitement. Just see the excitement on these fans faces!

The band sounded great and clean. Vocals were on point and you could hear her clearly as well as the bass beating master Justin pounding your skull in with deep riffs of punkatood. Lead guitarist Kevin cranked out the ska like guitar licks that gave me all the feels of punk ska love. Drummer Jesse gave us the beat we did not know we needed but are damn happy we got it! Aimee stage presence is fun, energetic and so f#$ng refreshing. She gave me hope that punk rock and ska is making its comeback for the masses to embrace, love and enjoy. She did not stop and really showed all the fans their that she loved them and was so happy that they came out to see them. They added a much needed jump start to the show and I would recommend seeing them to anyone at least 25 times, in a row if possible. I know, for sure that I will go and see them again and hopefully cover their concert because I was just so pumped and excited after their set. They really made me happy and that is what music should do. Go see them live, trust me you won’t regret it.
