ALEX EBERT | NEW ALBUM COMING 2020
Alex Ebert Announces Ambitious Sophomore Album ‘I vs I’, Teases More New Music Coming in 2020
Indie folk hitmaker Alex Ebert announces his most expansive album yet: 'I vs. I' (out January 31st via Community Music & AWAL). The eclectic collection of songs is a sprawling examination of existence tackling subjects that pre-occupy mankind, from love and sex (“Her Love”, “Fluid”) to the passage of time and the chase for eternal youth (“Automatic Youth”). On ‘I vs. I’, Alex crafts a story about “personal futurism” via the creation of an anti-hero moving through an increasingly unfamiliar world. Tackling these heady topics with a range of sounds just as immense, from the fun-punk sound that fans of Ima Robot are familiar with to more doleful indietronic folk reflections in the vein of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, this indie folk mainstay’s second solo record following 2011’s ‘Alexander’ solidifies his place among the pantheon of alternative music’s finest.
Today, Alex Ebert releases a new single and video off the record called “Stronger”. Amid a flurry of handclaps and an airy melody bolstered by a whistle and Ebert’s high-register, this jazzy track explores the highs and lows of a relationship. “Oh, you’re making me stronger / Or you’re making me work, work work”, Ebert croons over the dreamy piano-driven arrangement, calling to mind his folkier work and speaking to the deeper complexities of everyday modern love.
