Before we talk about their amazing performance at the Kings music venue in downtown Raleigh lets give a bit of history on the guys. Duncan Fellows consists of five guys who each bring an interesting and musically creative contribution to the group. The Duncan Fellows are friends from Austin, Texas and the band was founded in 2012. The band released their first EP in 2013 called “Twelve Years Older” and their second E.P called “Marrow” in 2015. Their album “Marrow” reached the number three spot on the iTunes Best Seller list for Alternative EPs. The band continues to grow and expand their music as well as their fan base.

The Show:

The band played at the Kings music venue in Raleigh on 10/20/2019. I arrived at the venue a little earlier and saw some people waiting at the front door of the venue. As I was waiting there, one of the music fans waiting to enter saw my camera and asked who I was there to photograph. I told him I was there to cover and photograph Duncan Fellows. Without hesitation and a burst of excitement the fan said “oh man!, I love them. I am here to see them, I love their music”. After I got inside to the venue a group of woman were standing by the left side of the stage. I overheard them talking about which song from the Duncan Fellows catalog they loved the most and guessing on what songs Duncan Fellows were going to play that night.

Shortly after arriving I met up with the bands manager and then met the band. I have to start of with how gracious they were with their time and very kind. The band was very approachable and were passionate about what they do. I did not get to interview them unfortunately but I did get to talk with some of the band members. I talked with David a little bit about their creative musical style, how they came up and developed their songs and talked a little bit about their tour. I am hoping to set up an Artists Highlight episode with them soon.

After talking with the band they got ready to go on stage. I walked back out to the front of the stage and got ready to photograph their set. Now I will be honest, I did not get a chance to listen to their music before I came to the show due to my schedule, so this live show would be my first experience hearing their music. Once the first few chords were played from their opening song I put the camera down and looked directly at their manager and mouthed “wow! This is really fucking good!”. I honestly was taken back by just the first song and how powerful it sounded. The bands performance was melodic and graceful but energetic as well. Each band member showed an abundance of energy with each chord struck and each vocal sang. The passion they have for the music they create was very palpable during their live performance. Fans came to the front of the stage and started dancing while singing along to each song. You could see the excitement in the faces of each fan as they heard their favorite song or one of their favorite songs. The bands fans would dance wildly while jumping up and down during the upbeat songs and then slowly sway during the bands more melodic and slower songs. It was exciting to witness the bands fans just completely connect themselves physically and emotionally to the bands music and live performance. The band played for about 40 minutes and never once waned from their high energetic performance and definitely gave music fans a great night to remember. The band is currently working on new music and you can check out their tour dates, previous recordings, merch and more at their website listed below this article. Check out this band and their music, support them and I look forward to seeing them grow as artists and musicians.
