Today, two-time BRIT Award nominated artist and platinum selling dance pop producer 220 Kid unveils his latest single “Release” alongside rising singer-songwriter ÁSDÍS. “Release” follows his multi-territory #1 single and BRIT nominated “Wellerman” remix and recent Defected Records track “Another Life” with Jem Cooke. “Release” is available now via Astralwerks, listen HERE.
Speaking of his new single 220 Kid said “’Release’ is the result of a collaborative process, just how all our best songs come about working with Tom De Mac, Jake, Amira, Joe and ÁSDÍS who’s incredible voice tells the songs story. The song is influenced in the classic piano house style, which has always allowed powerful vocals to tell emotional stories, the production we made was always there to support the lyrics and the feelings that ÁSDÍS vocals are providing, keeping it sparse and dark when the story is being set and then building and soaring when the true sadness of the long is at a head. Using a mix of a digital soundscape supported by analogue synths, to really create a rich and full emotive sound. The song is part of a series created by 220 Kid based around the title ‘Cupid Falls’ telling stories of lost love, almost perfect and how the happy endings usually at the end of cupid's arrow don’t always happen. Part of a collection of heartbreak songs and visuals “Release’ sets the scene and is there to draw in the listener to a journey of heartbreak and sadness which we all can relate to.”
Continuing his rise as one of the UK’s most in demand dance-pop producers and establishing his own unique sound that successfully cuts across both the clubs and radio airwaves, 220 Kid returns with “Release” and in his signature style manages to make a record that is both ethereal and anthemic. Underpinned by a punchy bass that carries ÁSDÍS’ vehement and meaningful vocals celestially, the track is an expressive haven of what it feels like to escape the miserable cycle of heartbreak.
With a mission to spark emotion and meaning through his music, 220 Kid carefully crafts a track that combines a breezy beat that is progressive and uplifting, juxtaposed with a hair raising and emotive vocal from ÁSDÍS. With authentic and meaningful collaboration at the heart of much of his music, 220 Kid has become one of UK dance music’s most prolific collaborators working with the likes of JC Stewart, Becky Hill, Nathan Evans, Billen Ted, GRACEY, Brynn Christopher, and Dillon Francis.
Despite only bursting onto the scene two years ago with his breakout hit “Don’t Need Love” featuring GRACEY which later landed him a nomination for Best British Single at last year’s BRITs, February saw 220 Kid return to the BRITs red carpet, this time nominated in the Song of The Year category in partnership with Mastercard for his inimitable chart topping single “Wellerman” featuring Nathan Evans and Billen Ted which famously knocked Drake off the number 1 spot.
