Lany performed at the Redhat Amphitheater on August 4th, 2022.

Lany was formed in 2014 and is known as a “dream pop” band that released their debut album in 2017 with some success. Their sophomore LP called “Malibu Nights” (2018) brought them their first top 100 single in 2019 called “Mean It”. The band is currently on tour, check out the link below for available tickets!

Now on to the show!

I was somewhat familiar with the band Lany from their song “Thick and Thin” which had some regular airplay in North Carolina and also kept popping up on my Spotify suggested list. I liked the song a lot because of its smooth musical composition and lead singer Paul Klein calm vocal delivery which matched the tone of the song perfectly. I was looking forward to covering them due to the great word of mouth I got from their music fans around NC. Before the show started I could see Lany fans finding the perfect spot to stand in so they could get as close as possible to the barricades for their chance to see Lany close up. The weather was clear and hot but definitely beautiful. A few minutes after we got to our spots in the pit the lights dimmed low and this huge screen lit up from the back of the stage with this cosmic space video playing on it. First the band members came out as fans started cheering, and then, Paul Klein walks out and the venue erupted with fans screaming and raising up their arms in excitement. You then saw a large LANY screen shot show up on the large video screen hanging at the back of the stage. This gave a cool silhouette effect to the band members as they walked out on stage and started to play. The venue got so loud at one point that I had to make sure my earplugs were in tightly. Lany started to perform and Paul Klein sounded great. His voice was clear and he brought this calm energy to his performance. He would move around the stage making sure to let everyone there see his performance. He would also occasionally step out onto these large speakers in the pit which allowed him to get a little bit closer to fans and sing to them up close and personal. During his performance I found myself front and center of the stage between two large speakers. Paul walked out onto the speaker to my left and started singing to fans, as I was taking pictures I then noticed him start to move towards me. I looked up, Paul gave me a slight nod as if to say, “whats up”, and stepped over to me and stood on the speaker to the right of me. He was very engaging to everyone who attended the show by talking with them and making jokes in-between songs. He really put on a passionate show filled with raw emotion which radiated to everyone watching him perform. The music fans were loving and I could see some of them so happy to be there and singing along to every song they new.

Overall Lany sounded great and I would see them live again in a heart beat. It was definitely one of the great shows of the summer as far as I am concerned. This is a show you don’t want to miss, especially if you are a Lany fan!
