Five for Fighting 8-5-2022 Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts

Five for Fighting’s show at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts was a great demonstration of singer John Ondrasik’s passion and intelligence.

Opener The Verve Pipe wrapped their performance after powering through an exciting cover of “The Chain” by Fleetwood Mac that left the audience in a prolonged standing ovation. In the intimate show at the Fletcher Opera Theater, Ondrasik’s creative energy was shining through as he alternated between his piano and guitar throughout the night. As he played through his setlist, it felt like being greeted by an old friend.

He performed fan favorites like “100 Years” and “Superman (It’s Not Easy),” a song that earned him his first Grammy nomination in 2002. Ondrasik gave an enthralling performance that was complimented by the talented musicians that shared the stage with him. His setlist also included a compelling rendition of “Can One Man Save the World,” a song that serves as a tribute to Ukraine and ended with a cover of “Bohemian Rhapsody.” The intergenerational crowd was completely won over, a testament to how far Five for Fighting’s music can reach. Ondrasik, as well as his backing musicians, brought an incredibly meaningful show to Raleigh on a tour that is sure to make a lasting impact on those that attend.
