POLYPHIA LIVE!! | RITZ MUSIC VENUE

We got the chance to cover a band that really is one of a kind in not only their stage performance but their sound. Polyphia is an instrumental rock band from Texas. The band formed in 2010 and consists of guitarists Tim Henson, bassist Clay Gober, Scott LePage and drummer Clay Aeschliman. There most recent album called “Remember that you will Die” brought them their second Billboard 200 chart hit by debuting at number 33. The band is known to combine elements or electronic music, hip hop and of course progressive rock to their creative writing process. I had never heard of this band before but was told amazing things from people who love their music and I have to say they were all correct, the band sounded incredible.

Now the band’s name was something I was really interested in finding the mean of. It is a unique name and after some research I found a quote from the band stated in a 2013 interview of what the name of their band means. I found this to be such a cool meaning behind a band name.

It comes from the word "Polyphony", meaning "music whose texture is defined by the interweaving of several melodic lines".

The band performed at the Ritz Music Venue in Raleigh NC to a sold-out crowd. Fans travelled from all around just to see them perform. When the band came out to the stage the crowd went wild and each band member waved hello to the fans and then they started to play their music. The band added a cool visual element to their show, they had several light stands that would glow different colors throughout the bands performance which really enhanced the viewer’s visual experience. These lights would create a silhouette around each band member and kind of created this glowing energized look. The drummer of the group was encased in these lights, and it was such a cool thing to see. Now, this being the first time I am experiencing this band I have to say I was really impressed. They performed with such emotion and joy that you could see the music fans just getting lost in the music. You can see the band takes pride in the music they create and really enjoy playing together on stage. I would see each band member glancing at each other smiling or laughing which showed us that they were really happy to be there. After seeing them perform I am definitely now a fan. To hear music performed this way in a live setting is something I think everyone should experience. I would not miss out on seeing them live, you won’t regret it.
