We covered the Glass Animals tour stop in Raleigh NC at the Coastal Credit Union Music Park (Walnut Creek) as they performed to 16,000 plus fans. The bands performance was one of the most unique experiences I have ever had when covering a bands tour stop in North Carolina. The only way I can describe what I saw is comparing it to being abducted by aliens, then being placed in front of a stage in their large spaceship to watch Glass Animals perform. The reason I say that is because the band had this incredibly elaborate stage set up that included a large screen behind them that played 80’s style graphics with alternating shapes and colors that quickly moved across the screen. The band stood on this huge platform that had lights wrapped around it, as well as a large glass ball in the center of the stage. Above the band was this other large glass bulb surrounded by lights that illuminate the stage below in an array of colors. It was by far the most interesting and exciting stage and lighting set up I have ever experienced at the Walnut Creek. The band came out on stage highly energized to over 16,000 people screaming and reaching out their hands. Lead singer Dave Bayley said hello to the crowd and said, “tonight is a special night, I was told this is the largest crowd yet on this tour!”. He thanked everyone for coming out to see them. The band sounded great, and the energy was high, Dave Bayley ran around on the stage as the entire amphitheater was singing along to each song they know. At one point during the night, he left the stage and walked around the venue while seeing giving an incredible close-up experience to the fans sitting further back from the stage.
