AMERICAN AQUARIUM LIVE!! | LINCOLN THEATER
Coverage by Larissa Blankenship
American Aquarium performed for three sold out back-to-back nights at Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh, NC for their tenth annual “Road Trip to Raleigh”. The band recently kicked-off their 2025 tour season with Raleigh as the second city and we covered the second night, February 7th, of the tour stop. The frontman and bandleader, BJ Barham, started the band in his college dorm room at North Carolina State University in Raleigh in 2005. Since then the band has gone on to produce sixteen albums including the 2012 album Live in Raleigh.
The band took to the stage on Friday night with “Crier”, the first song off of their most recent album The Fear of Standing Still. The band’s enthusiastic fans gave them a warm welcome home by swinging t-shirts, cheering, and singing along. I even spoke with a few dedicated fans who traveled all the way from New Orleans to attend all three nights. American Aquarium played many crowd favorites off of their previous albums including “All I Needed”, “Hurricane”, and “Nothing to Lose”. The night closed out with a four song encore that included bringing Cary Ann Hearst (one half of the duo Shovels & Rope who opened the show earlier that night) onto the stage to join the band in “Good Fight”. Overall it was a memorable night and the American Aquarium put on an incredible performance.
