FUTUREBIRDS LIVE!! | LINCOLN THEATER
Coverage by Larissa Blankenship
Barely any standing room could be found at Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh, NC on December 13th as fans eagerly waited for Futurebirds to take the stage. The band is currently touring as part of their Fall 2025 tour and their stop in Raleigh brought down the house. Futurebirds is a self identified “y’allternative” indie rock band from Athens, Georgia. The group is made up of five members (Thomas Johnson, Carter King, Daniel Womack, Tom Myers, and Brannen Miles) and has released five studio albums since the band was formed in 2008.
The night started off strong with “Rodeo”, which was clearly a fan favorite by how the crowd danced and sang along. As a fun seasonal touch, Christmas lights lit the stage and wrapped around the drum set, pulsing in time with the music. Throughout the night Futurebird played songs across their discography including “Crazy Boys”, “Bloom”, and “27”. The band members appeared to be having a great time as they each showed off their musical talents through guitar battles and solos. They also fed off of the crowd's energy through singing directly to certain fans and at times leaning off the stage to get closer. The group later brought out the opener, Patton Magee, to join the band in a cover of “Rockin’ in the Free World”. The high energy night came to a close with “Yur Not Ded” off of Hampton’s Lullaby, Futurebird’s first album. If you are looking for a new favorite indie band give Futurebirds a listen and maybe you will even join the “Birdfam”.
