PEACH PIT LIVE!! | RITZ

Coverage by Larissa Blankenship

Peach Pit brought their highly anticipated Fall Quest tour to The Ritz in Raleigh, NC on October 3rd. The indie band hails from Vancouver, Canada and is on the tail end of their tour across the US. Peach Pit is made up of four core members: Neil Smith (lead vocals and guitar), Christopher Vanderkooy (lead guitar and keyboard), Peter Wilton (bass guitar and vocals), and Mikey Pascuzzi (percussion). With four studio albums under their belt, the most recent being Magpie which was released in October of last year, the band brings a special energy to their music. Many songs off of the recent album, including the title track, feel very reminiscent of early 2000s indie music but still have their own special twist.

On theme with the tour name, medieval tavern music played from the loudspeakers as the crowd waited for the show to start. The stage was set up with tiered platforms backlit by an array of lights. As the lights dimmed and the band emerged, each member took their spot on the platform with Smith in the middle. The show began with a mash up of Peach Pit’s song Magpie with War Pigs by Black Sabbath. To the delight of the packed crowd, the members took turns on platforms closer to the edge of the stage during multiple songs. The night continued with more of the group's hits such as Alrighty Aphrodite and Drop the Guillotine which featured many guitar solos, hand banging, and hair flips. If you are looking for a new indie band to add to your playlists Peach Pit is definitely worth the listen.
