STATIC- X LIVE!! | RITZ
Coverage by Chris Sturk
Static-X delivered a high-energy performance at the Ritz Music Venue in Raleigh, captivating the thousand-plus fans in attendance with their signature industrial metal sound. Formed in 1994 in Los Angeles, California, the band went through multiple lineup changes over the years, with founder and lead vocalist Wayne Static remaining its driving force until their official breakup in 2013. Tragically, Static passed away at the age of 48 in 2014.
In 2018, original members Tony Campos (bass), Koichi Fukuda (lead guitar), and Ken Jay (drums) reunited to honor Static’s legacy, reforming the band and bringing his vision back to life. One of the most intriguing elements of the band’s resurgence was the introduction of their new frontman, known as Xer0. For years, his identity remained a mystery, though many speculate—based on various reports—that he is Edsel Dope of the band Dope. The band chose to have Xer0 wear a mask resembling Wayne Static, a creative choice that has sparked mixed reactions. Some find it unsettling, while others see it as a heartfelt tribute to the late vocalist. How you interpret it is up to you.
The band’s live performance was electric, bursting with energy as they powered through their setlist. Massive screens at the back of the stage flashed vibrant color patterns and abstract shapes, adding to the immersive experience. Fans in attendance were ecstatic, singing along and fully engaged with the show. If you’re looking to hear classic Static-X songs, performed with a fresh yet familiar intensity, this is a concert worth experiencing.
