We covered Anderson Paak’s tour stop at the RedHat Amphitheater on June 6th 2019 in partnership with Pulse FM.   Anderson Paak is a Grammy winning, multi-talented and multi-faceted artist.  He is a rapper, singer songwriter, record producer and plays several different instruments.  He is from Oxnard California.   His newest album was executively produced by no other than Dr. Dre himself and called “Ventura”.  It was released on April 12th 2019.

There are a few shows that fill up the RedHat every year such as Wu-Tang and now you can add Anderson Paak to that list.  I need to start off with stating that is show was “dynamite” and “very fun”.  Anderson has such a great stage presence.  He was so happy to be there playing for his fans.  It felt more like a celebration of people than anything else.  He was highly energetic and had a smile on his face the entire time.  He talked with the crowd and really engaged with them.

When he came to the stage he came to it in a unique way.  There was a boxed gate in the center of the stage and you could see through it a little bit.  Once the stage lights went dim the only light that was on was inside this caged box.  You could make out a drum set but nothing else.  Smoke started to bellow out from smoke machines and that’s when the inside of this large caged box started to move.   I had to blink a few times to realize what I was looking at but the drum set was rising out of the box.  Once it got to the top there was Anderson Paak behind the drum set kicking off the first beats to his first song of the night.  It was very cool to see and on top of that he had pyrotechnics shooting off on each side of the boxed cage which he now stood above.   Let me just point out as well that he not only played the drums but sang the song at the same time as playing the drums.  That takes talent to do and he did it seamlessly.

After the first song he came down from the stop of the cage and towards the front of the stage.  He grabbed the microphone and started saying hello to the crowd.  He then busted out some, what I can only describe as “smooth as ice” dance moves.  His energy was off the charts and he sounded amazing.  Each song had punch, character and excitement behind it.  With the mixture of pyrotechnics, dance moves, unstoppable energy and great sound it will has to be one of the best shows of 2019.

He is currently on tour so check out his website for tour dates and where to get tickets.  Anderson Paak is a show you need to go see.
