f28 covered Staind during their tour stop with Korn in Raleigh NC at the Walnut Creek Amphitheater. Staind is a band with a long and illustrious music career and catalog. They are also a band that originated from my home state of Massachusetts. The band was formed in 1995 in Springfield Massachusetts and the band has record 7 full length albums and produced several hit songs such as “Fade”, “Its been awhile”, “Outside”, “Everything changes”, “So Far away” and the list goes on. Staind is a band that holds a special place in my heart not only because they are from my home state but also because of the incredible lyrical poetry written by Aaron Lewis. When I was in my 20’s the band was just starting to hit their stride with several songs getting massive amounts of radio airplay across the country. Staind was a band that spoke to me when I was young and dealing with different emotions. I found solace in Aarons lyrics and the bands musical composition. I got to meet the Aaron and Mike Mushok almost 17 years ago when I was an on air DJ for a radio station. They were both kind and generous with their time and I appreciated that and never forget it. So to see them perform live again almost 17 years later and to be able to photograph them for f28 was a great privilege.
Staind came to the stage with a more calmed and relaxed toned compared to their younger years. That is not a bad thing, just something I noticed. Aaron lit a cigarette then came to the mic and the band started to play. Aarons vocals sounded clean and clear and he never missed a note. Lead guitarist Mike Mushok definitely kept the energy going. He was head banging while ripping out solos just as he did over 17 years ago. They played several songs including some of their most popular rock hits and the crowd loved every bit of it. I saw fans raising up their fists up high and passionately matching Aarons singing note for note. Staind is a band that has left an incredibly deep gash in the world of music and have created songs that will be listened to by music fans for decades to come. If you get the chance to see them live you won’t want to miss it.
