LUCY DACUS LIVE!! | NEW YORK

On Thursday, July 21st, Lucy Dacus performed outdoors on the Central Park Summerstage in New York City. After openers Hop Along got the show started with a full set of their own, Lucy was joined onstage for her sunset park performance by a stunning string quartet. She opened her set with a portion of her song "Triple Dog Dare'' - which is the closer of her new album Home Video - but cut the song short when a couple people towards the front of the crowd passed out. Many fans waited in line all day to be up front and had to endure extreme heat as well as a brief downpour, followed by more heat and humidity, in order to do so. Security did a good job passing out water, and even held a sprinkler hose up over the crowd to try to help cool them down, but there were still a few people who wound up needing help. While the show was stopped for a bit, Lucy took some time to address the crowd and introduce herself before restarting, and the rest of her set followed without a hitch. Following "Triple Dog Dare", she played an array of songs, mostly pulled from her albums Home Video and Historian. Much of Lucy Dacus' music is well known for being raw, emotional, and sad - the vulnerability both from her onstage and in the attentive crowd was noted -and very few eyes stayed dry the full night. Despite this, the atmosphere was not somber - rather it was cathartic. The often-serious tone of the songs was nicely juxtaposed with Lucy's bubbly stage presence - literally, she had bubble machines going off throughout the night - and the upbeat instrumentals, stunning string quartet, and projections of home videos on the screen behind her added further to this. She also notably performed both a Cher and Springsteen cover and ended the night with a special performance of an unreleased song. Lucy Dacus is a singer-songwriter from Virginia, best known for her albums Historian and Home Video, the latter of which is her most recent release, as well as for her work with Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker in supergroup "boygenius". She has been on tour with Hop Along throughout North America in promotion of her album Home Video and will continue this tour through mid-August. She also just announced an additional fall tour throughout North America starting at the end of September and stated that it will be the final tour for this album cycle, so be sure to grab a ticket!
