WATCHHOUSE LIVE!! | CATS CRADLE

Coverage by Larissa Blankenship

On November 14th at Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro, NC a strong floral scent filled the air of the venue. This sweet smell came from the many white hydrangeas and peonies arranged in vases across the stage and hanging from the ceiling in preparation for the opening night of Watchhouse’s sold out weekend. The band hailing from Chapel Hill, NC, stopped in Carrboro for two back-to-back sold out shows as part of their Rituals tour. Watchhouse is an American folk duo composed of vocalists and instrumentalists Andrew Marlin and Emily Frantz, who are married to each other. The band was formed in 2009 under the name “Mandolin Orange”, but the group later changed to “Watchhouse” in 2021. The group has produced and released nine albums, the most recent being Rituals which came out in May of this year.

The venue was bursting at the seams with an eager crowd as Watchhouse walked onto the stage. The duo played many songs off their new album, such as “In The Sun” and “All Around You”, while also featuring some of their older music. The stage decorations added to the folk, bluegrass atmosphere as Marlin and Frantz’s vocals filled the room. Some attendees sang along while others swayed with the music. Marlin and Frantz spoke about how good it was to be back in their hometown and what it meant to have the support of their fans. If you are looking for a great night of music and songwriting make sure to catch Watchhouse next time they are in town.
