SOCCER MOMMY LIVE!! | BOWERY BALLROOM NEW YORK

Soccer Mommy took the stage at New York City's Bowery Ballroom late on Friday Night for a special Gov Ball After Dark show. Fans - many of whom had been at the festival all day - lined up around the block well before doors to catch the show.

Though it was a late night - Soccer Mommy took the stage around 12:30am - there was no shortage of energy in the crowd, many of whom had been at Gov Ball since that morning. Gov Ball’s tradition of after hour shows allows a nice change of pace from the full day of festival sets, and it was clear those in attendance were happy to have a more intimate performance with time for some deep cuts to end their night on - not to mention the relief of having air conditioning.

Sophie Allison - known by her stage name Soccer Mommy - is an indie artist from Nashville that describes her music as “chill but kinda sad”. She’ll be releasing her third album Sometimes, Forever in just a couple weeks on June 24th, following 2018’s Clean and 2020’s Color Theory.

“Chill but sad” can certainly be a tough style of music to present effectively in a live set, but Soccer Mommy still managed to bring the energy and keep the crowd engaged, a feat made more impressive considering the time of night and how tired one can only imagine most of that crowd was. On stage she performed with a full backing band, as well as played guitar herself. The set opened with her hit “Circle The Drain”, and stayed strong throughout. Another popular, but older, song, “Your Dog”, was performed about halfway through the night, and the crowd reaction to just the first note was enough to prove their energy and engagement. Soccer Mommy recently announced a North American tour for the fall following the release of her next album. So keep an eye out for those dates!
